Forex Currency Trading
The simultaneous trading of one currency vs another. Currency is traded in Pairs
Forex trading involves the simultaneous purchase of one currency and the sale of another. Currencies are traded in pairs. The Foreign Exchange market is the largest financial market in the world. The currencies traded in the forex market are those of those countries with low inflation, stable governments, respected central banks and institutions. Major currencies involved in transactions are U.S. Dollar, Japanese Yen, European Union Euro, British Pound, Swiss Franc, Canadian and Australian Dollars. Currency trading is traded in the form of LOTS. Lots contain different amounts of currency. Example: Lot contains 100,000 Yen.
The forex market is not managed trough a typical exchange. Transactions are typically conducted between 2 counterparts. The market functions as an “inter bank”, over the counter market. In the past major forex market participants included central, commercial, and investment banks. Also international money managers, brokers, multinational corporations, registered dealers, options, futures traders and private investors participate. With computers and the internet, forex trading is becoming more available to the masses. Just until a few years ago, only the big boys traded in the forex market.
Forex trading is different from traditional securities and stock trading in the sense that it is a very short-term investment strategy. Trades may last from a couple of minutes, days or even a few weeks. The objective is to increase daily or weekly profits in your Forex brokerage account. Traditional stocks, mutual funds, bonds or long term notes are redeemable at a future tense date. In the Forex market, participants frequently jump in and out of the market all the while monitoring their positions throughout the day. Investors can have real time response to any fluctuations caused by current economic, social and political events.
